Last year I wrote about how lucky I am to have my daughter's father. But what's more, he's like MacGyver when it comes to cooking and organizing picnics (right, "VOGUE girls"? That paella was delicious, wasn't it!). ("Sally's House") And set up the coolest tents in the world (with my tablecloths!). She's very used to it and does it brilliantly. And me… I just have to add a few flowers and lie in the sun! (I'm not much help, am I, Rey?!). And lend her all my baskets. That's my only rule: not a single plastic bag in sight!
Father's Day arrives right next to spring, and my more touristy side multiplies a thousandfold, and I remember the picnic days in the woods at my grandparents' house in Merrydown, Sussex (UK) and I can't think of a better way to celebrate it than to do it around a super picnic in the countryside this weekend.
And what makes a picnic perfect?
1. The place. For me it would definitely be Aguarriba (you can see photos in my Instagram with the hashtags #aguarriba and #medalavida), my house in the Montes de Toledo. But Spain is full of wonderful places.

2. Bring a little piece of home to the countryside. Some blankets, a mosquito net, some cushions.

3. A basket (with lids and straps!! And the smell of wet wicker!)
4. A lunch that's easy to pack, transport... and eat with your hands!

5. A good wine, chosen by the guest of honor.

6. Fresh fruit

7. Flowers! Flowers on the tablecloth. Freshly picked.

Enjoying a meal outdoors with family is a pleasure everyone can experience. All we need is good weather.
Happy Father's Day! And happy picnic.
